Super Easy Homemade Crumpet Recipe (Thermomix Recipe Too!)

Who doesn’t love a warm, toasted crumpet with lashings of butter and jam on a lazy Sunday morning?

The only thing better than this, is a crumpet that you made yourself – no preservatives – no nasties – with ease.

With the weekend almost on our doorstep, I thought that I would share this delicious and oh so easy recipe for you to enjoy on your breakfast tables.

For my fellow Thermomix friends, I have included the Thermomix version of this recipe as well as a recipe for those with simply a blender. It has been adopted with pride from the Thermomix recipe community.

You’ll need:
  • 1 Tbs of Caster Sugar (or if using Thermomix, 1 Tbs  raw sugar)
  •  ½ cup or 120 g self raising flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup or 160 g milk

Method:

Preparing the Batter -Thermomix:
  • If using a Thermomix weigh in raw sugar and mill for 3 seconds on speed 9 to make caster sugar
  • Add remaining ingredients and mix for 5 seconds on speed 3-4
  • Check you have a smooth consistency- if not, scrape down and repeat

Preparing the Batter – Non Thermomix
  • Place all ingredients in a blender and mix until all ingredients smooth and combined

To cook:
  • Add a little butter to a pan and also around egg rings and heat pan on low heat for 1 minute (hint: make sure heat is set to low, as you don’t want your crumpets to burn on the bottom without cooking through)
  • Add approx 2 Tbs of batter to each egg ring and cook without turning for around 8 minutes
Speed up the process by putting multiple egg rings in the pan at once
  • Crumpets are cooked when the bubbles stop rising to the surface
  • If you like the ‘top toasted’ flip to the front and cook for 20 seconds
  • Top your beautiful crumpets with your favourite toppings and enjoy – you’ll never buy again!
Sweet or Savoury toppings - the crumpet is so versitle!

Hope you have a fabulous weekend and enjoy these tasty crumpets!

  2. These are deeelicious! I've been looking for a crumpet recipe for a long time now. Thank goodness for the internet! I've never liked the after taste (baking powder tang) you get after bought crumpets and they are soooo much nicer fresh. YUM! It's a winner for me. I've added it to my fav's. Thank you! PS. Next time I'll have to double (or triple) the recipe as they got gobbled up by the family. (I used wholemeal spelt flour too).
