{Post brought to you in conjunction with Rufus & Coco}
Not sure about your end of the world, but apart from this long weekend (typical), we have certainly felt things (finally) heating up here in Melbourne town.
And while most of us are vigilant about applying sunscreen to our selves and kids whilst out enjoying the sunny weather, how many of you do just the same for your four legged friends?!
Until recently, I didn't realise just how dangerous the sun could also be for our furry friends. Close friends of ours have spent far too much time (and money) with their local vet, having cancerous lumps removed from their pooch over the past year. This situation has certainly made me far more aware just how harmful the sun can be to our much loved doggy Georgie, who just adores lazing about and playing in the sun.
Until now, I wasn't aware of any form of sun protection that could be used for pets. Leading pet care brand Rufus & Coco have invested a lot of time in to developing an amazing new pet-safe sunscreen called Sun Buddy. When I was given the chance to try it out on our Georgie, it was perfect timing with summer on our doorstep.
Our Georgie as a pup almost 6 years ago - aww!! |

Our Georgie is a Beaglier (Beagle X King Charles Cavalier). She has quite a lot of white fur and loves to lay on her back (revealing her spotty tum) in the sun. Her cross breed (Beagle) is one of the breeds that is recognised as being a wee bit more susceptible to sun damaged skin.
I wasn't quite sure how Miss Georgie would go having this applied to her (she has having her flea treatment applied etc), but she literally lapped up the attention for a change (she definitely is a bit starved for that with two kids around these days!).
The cream is simply applied to your pooch (or kitty) by hand 20 minutes prior to exposure to the sun. I have been doing this first thing in the morning and again in the afternoon. It is recommended to apply every two hours and again after swimming bathing, like you would with your human sunscreen.
If you have a beloved pet that you would love to protect this summer, the Sun Buddy is available in selected (larger) Woolies stores, pet stores and vets and retails for $14.95.
